Privacy
Clickboard doesn't have accounts, logins, or passwords. This page explains what the game stores, what stays in your browser, and which outside services see your visit.
What the game stores
- The name or nickname you type in.
- The two-letter country your connection appears to come from, used to show a flag and to add your clicks to that country's total.
- Your click count, and the times your session was created and last updated.
- A random session id, generated when you press Start clicking.
- A salted, one-way hash of your IP address. The address itself isn't saved by the game. The hash is used only to notice when the same connection enters the same name more than once, so the best score is kept and older, lower attempts are dropped. Because it's derived from your IP address, we treat it as personal data even though it can't simply be read back as an address.
Your name, flag, and click count are public by design: they're what appears on the leaderboard, and anyone can see them. Session ids and IP hashes are never shown. Don't use your full real name or anyone else's personal details as a nickname.
What your browser stores
The game itself doesn't set cookies. It keeps one entry in your browser's local storage, under the key clickboard.session, holding your session id, name, country code, and click count. That's what lets you close the tab and come back to the same score. The game sends your clicks and session id to Clickboard's server so the leaderboard can count them.
To remove it, clear this site's data in your browser settings (in most browsers: the padlock or site-info icon next to the address, then the option to clear cookies and site data). Clearing it starts you over with a new session; your old score stays on the leaderboard unless you ask for it to be removed (see below).
The advertising described below may set its own cookies or use similar storage.
Services that see your visit
Like almost every website, loading Clickboard means your browser talks to a few other companies' servers. Each of them receives your IP address and basic request details such as your browser type, under their own privacy policies:
- Cloudflare hosts the site, runs the game's server code and database, works out your country from your connection, and provides the site analytics described below. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces the site uses. See Google's privacy policy.
- flagcdn.com serves the small country-flag images on the leaderboard.
- Google AdSense serves ads on the information pages. More on this below.
We don't sell the data the game stores. Apart from the public leaderboard, it isn't shared with anyone except these service providers as they run the site.
Site analytics
Every page of Clickboard, including the game page, loads Cloudflare Web Analytics. It's a small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com that reports each page view to Cloudflare. For each view, it records:
- the page you visited and the site that linked you to it, if any
- your browser, operating system, and device type
- the country your connection comes from
- how long the page took to load and become usable
We use it to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and whether pages load slowly. We only ever see totals and trends in Cloudflare's dashboard, never individual visitors. The analytics aren't linked to your nickname, your session id, or your leaderboard entry.
According to Cloudflare, Web Analytics doesn't use cookies or local storage and doesn't build a profile of you across sites. Cloudflare keeps the data under its privacy policy. If you'd rather not be counted, most content and tracker blockers block the script, and the site and game work normally without it.
Advertising and cookies from Google
Clickboard uses Google AdSense to show ads on its information pages, such as this one. The game page itself doesn't load ad code. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. To learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you're visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your choice before ads or advertising cookies are personalized, and lets you change it later.
How long data is kept
Leaderboard entries (name, country, click count, timestamps, and the hashed connection value) are kept for as long as the leaderboard exists, because the all-time board is meant to be a permanent record. The game server also keeps a short-lived working copy of an active session; it's dropped after about ten minutes without clicks. The local-storage entry in your browser stays until you clear it.
Removing an entry
If you want a leaderboard entry removed, for example because it contains your real name, contact us with the name exactly as it appears and roughly when it was played. Since there are no accounts, those details are the only way to find it. Entries are removed from the database, not just hidden.
Children
Clickboard is a general-audience site and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Since there are no accounts, the only information anyone types in is the nickname.
Changes to this policy
If what Clickboard stores or which services it uses changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
